Pro bono

At Chevez Ruiz Zamarripa we have always been committed to doing and promoting pro bono work. As leaders in providing legal services, we have the responsibility of promoting the economic development and social benefit of our environment, so through pro bono work we have been able to offer our experience, knowledge and time to support less favoured people, vulnerable groups, civil society organizations and social enterprises, positively impacting the sustainable growth of our society, which undoubtedly translates into a fairer and more equitable society.

In recent years, actions have been taken to institutionalize the Firm's pro bono work, such as:

  • Creation of a Pro Bono Steering Committee.
  • A coordinator of said Committee in a full time appointment.
  • We developed our internal Pro Bono Manual.
  • We formalized the provenance of pro bono work, considering two sources: i) the internal pro bono program and ii) collaboration with "clearing houses".
  • We provide internal and external training, specialized in the substantive areas of our pro bono work.

In addition to our regular pro bono activities, in 2019 we developed the General Manual of Tax Requirements and Obligations for Civil Society Organizations, a general manual of tax requirements and obligations for non-profit organizations that has been distributed through the “Clearing houses” with which we commonly work (Centro Mexicano Pro Bono and Appleseed México). This manual can be read here.

We are counselors of Pro Bono Mexico Standards, whose main objective is to contribute to the definition of what the legal community in Mexico should understand as pro bono work.

Our Firm is a signatory of the Vance Center's Pro Bono Declaration of the Americas, a commitment to provide free legal assistance to those who lack access to quality legal services.

We believe that this is a way of exercising our social responsibility as legal professionals and supporting the development of a more just and inclusive society.

In these lines of action, we are challenging ourselves to improve and institutionalize our pro bono work, in order to generate much more economic and social development for the benefit of our country.
